Abstract

Agriculture is the primary means of subsistence for the vast majority of Indian citizens, and it plays a significant role in the overall economic landscape of the nation. Our project's goal is to lessen the amount of human labor required by the farmer by implementing an automated irrigation system with the intention of increasing the efficiency with which water is used for agricultural crops. In this research, the design and implementation of a wireless sensor network is shown. This network is capable of monitoring the air temperature, humidity, and light intensity in a crop field as well as from distant locations. Nodes are the building blocks of this system. Each node is outfitted with a variety of small-scale application-specific sensors and radio frequency modules. The countries in which agriculture is the primary economic activity and climate circumstances that lead to insufficient rainfall and a lack of available water served as the impetus for the development of this project. Rainfall and bore wells are the only sources of water that can be used to irrigate the land, thus the farmers who work there must rely on both. Even if there is a water pump on the agricultural field, the farmers still have to manually turn the pump on and off at the appropriate times. The goal of the project is to develop an autonomous irrigation system that switches the pump motor on and off based on detecting the amount of moisture that is present in the soil. The use of an adequate method of irrigation is an absolutely necessary component of the agricultural industry. The use of this method has the benefit of reducing the amount of human participation while yet guaranteeing that sufficient watering has taken place. In order to construct a software application, first the threshold values of soil moisture, temperature, and water level had to be determined and then they had to be programmed into an arm controller. The managing and monitoring of the amount of water, as well as the detection of the soil's moisture content, are discussed in this study.
